One of the top nursery themes for a reason, safari nurseries are chic, natural, and adorable — combining elevated design trends with playful animal imagery. Here are five essential elements to include as you create your little one’s safari-themed space.

1. Natural woods. A safari is all about embracing nature, wildlife, and the great outdoors. Grounding your space in natural wood pieces can go a long way toward creating a safari-inspired design. Rather than choosing a metallic or upholstered crib, start by looking for cribs in organic wood tones like the Yuzu Crib in Natural or the Scoot Crib in Natural Walnut.

2. Earth tones. Continue setting the scene by turning to an earth-toned palette. You can play with as much color as you’d like, but you’ll want to be sure to incorporate some essential nature hues. Browns, greens, and warm red or terracotta tones will all help evoke that natural feel — and they also make great seating colors. Look to pieces like the Kiwi Recliner in Olive Boucle and the Nami Recliner in Rouge Teddy Loop for inspiration.

3. Wicker and cane. We’re not done with the natural materials yet. Woven wicker and cane are essential to creating a breezy, outdoorsy aesthetic. Throw spare pillows and blankets into woven wicker baskets, find a woven light fixture, or seek out other types of decorative wicker decor. If you want to go all in with natural cane, pieces like the Bondi Cane Crib and Madison Swivel Glider in Boucle and Cane are great for mixing and matching with the other crib and seating styles mentioned above.

4. Botanical decor. You’ve got natural woods, an earthy palette, and wicker and cane accents — now you need some greenery. No safari nursery is complete without some botanical touches. Add in tree-themed wallpaper for a bold approach, or go with something more understated like our Olive Branches bedding. Don’t forget to add a few real or artificial plants to your space to capture that into-the-jungle vibe.

5. Animal imagery. There’s still one thing missing from this safari: wild animals. Whether you opt for freestanding stuffed animals, animal-shaped area rugs, or framed animal wall art, there are plenty of ways to have fun with the theme and bring your safari nursery to life. Choose some imagery of your favorite safari animals, or keep it elevated and only tie in animal prints.
