There's a moment — if you're lucky, you catch it — where your toddler does something completely on their own. Gets dressed. Picks out a book. Settles into their space without needing you to make it happen.
It doesn't come from nowhere.
Business Insider recently captured something we think about a lot. In "I Built My Toddler a Mini Man Cave. The Room Design is Helping Him to be More Independent," single mom and designer Victoria Lee Jones spent six months reimagining her son Connor's room around one idea: independence. "It has always been a priority for me that he learns to do things on his own, no matter his age," she shared.
The result wasn't just a cool room. It was a room that quietly told him: you've got this.
That's the idea behind the Rizo Montessori-Inspired Twin Bed — which Victoria chose as the foundation of Connor's space.
Design That Does Something
The Montessori approach to kids' spaces isn't a trend. It's a philosophy — one built on the belief that when children can access their environment on their own terms, they grow into it. Victoria designed Connor's room with exactly that in mind: "I considered how he'd access toys, his bed, and clothes, all on his own level." Since everything is within reach, he's learned to get dressed independently, help clean his room, and settle into a routine built around choice.
A bed that sits close to the floor isn't just a design choice. It's an invitation.
A Space That Belongs to Them
Victoria also knew the room had to feel like him. "I wanted it to feel masculine," she said — "deep colors, vintage textures, and classic designs." Every item was curated with intention: leather accent pillows, a vintage Bluetooth radio, framed portraits of inspirational figures. "Giving him a beautiful room was immensely important to me because I want to pass on to Connor the appreciation of beauty I have as a designer and contractor."
The Rizo Montessori-Inspired Twin Floor Bed fit that vision. Clean lines. A low silhouette. The kind of piece that holds its own in a room with a real point of view.
We're not saying a bed changes everything. But the way you design a space sends a message. Victoria put it best: "Every single item was curated by me specifically for him."
